Why Climate Control in Warehouses is Necessary – Part 1
BlogWarehouse storage is not as simple as many people are lead to believe. Many warehouses are technologically advanced, with systems installed that make the operation of the warehouse more reliable and dynamic. One such aspect that relies heavily upon technology is the climate of the warehouse. Many people who are just getting into the industry often overlook the importance of having a suitable climate for storage within the warehouse, leading to unexpected costs to be incurred later in the business venture, either through damaged stock or the need to install a system to manage the climate of the warehouse, which was previously unaccounted for. This article will give an overview to why, in certain circumstances, climate controlled warehouses are essential for storage, and how climate control solutions can be implemented.
Why do warehouses need climate control?
Climate control covers two major aspects of the internal condition of warehouse: temperature and humidity. These two factors can have a major impact upon the condition of stock stored within a warehouse. Many items
require certain storage conditions, in regards to temperature and humidity. For example, warehouses stocking electrical goods will need to manage the levels of humidity within their storage solution, in order to avoid damaging any internal electrical components through the resulting moisture. Another example, which requires more specific regulation, can be found within the pharmaceutical industry. Many pharmaceutical goods are very sensitive to storage conditions, with many products requiring storage between 2-8 degrees Celsius. Just a few degrees either side of this can dramatically alter the chemical stability of these medicinal substances, therefore it is imperative that the optimum conditions are met.
The food & beverage industries also heavily rely on temperature controlled storage facilities. Within recent years there has been a decline in the public’s acceptance of food preservatives, with a shift favouring produce that is free from unnecessary additives. This has placed a huge emphasis upon the role of the temperature controlled warehouse. Perishable foodstuffs must be stored in adequately cool conditions, in order to prevent any premature spoilation, and therefore avoiding any financial losses.
